Rafael Martinez Garcia Peña

I am a computer scientist that helps machines understand people through vision. My specialty is in the use of data-driven techniques, particularly neural networks, with a focus on tasks that do not have access to large volumes of data. As part of the Next Move in Movement Disorders (NEMO) team, I am using new advances in human action recognition and pose estimation to study movement disorders with video.

My current work is concerned with distinguishing between hyperkinetic movement disorders with non-invasive, highly accessible consumer cameras. With it, I hope to create software that helps medical experts use objective, easy-to-use tools to improve patient outcomes by providing faster, more accurate diagnoses without needing specialized equipment.
