Thesis defense Marja Broersma

In her thesis, Marja explains essential tremor to be a netwerk disorder in which several brain regions appear to be involved. Furthermore she describes the effect of transcranial magnetic stimulation on functional motor disorders and findings of fMRI scans made before and after this intervention. For both disorders the pathophysiology is largely unexplained and a large heterogeneity exists within the patient groups. Marja and the research team have contributed with this work to disentangling the underlying mechanisms. During the traditional defense in the Academy Building of the University of Groningen an interesting discussion took place, in which Marja defended her methods and the interpretations of her findings.
