PhD Defence Dr. Wieke Eggink

On September 11, Wieke Eggink defended her thesis entitled "Moving forward in childhood-onset movement disorders".

In her thesis, Dr. Eggink described the difficulties in recognising movement disorders in young patients, as they are often characterised by a mixed presentation. She investigated the impact of these movement disorders on quality of life and different measures of effectiveness of therapy, including deep brain stimulation. Dr. Eggink concludes that movement disorders in children and young-adults require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to facilitate the recognition and management as far as possible.
