New colleague from Italy!
On august 1st, Giorgia Sciacca started a Movement Disorders Society research fellowship in the UMCG. She is a neurologist in the university hospital of Catania, Sicily, and will stay with us for 6 months.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2010 and achieved the specialization in Neurology in 2016. She is interested in Movement Disorders and Clinical Neurophysiology. And has been involved in Movement Disorders for 14 years, with special dedication to Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonism. She also started scientific research in the field of Neurophysiology of Movement Disorders. In 2019 she completed her PhD program in Neuroscience (International), Cycle XXXII. The topics of her PhD program were about the use of neurophysiological tools in differential diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and Atypical Parkinsonian Syndromes and the influence of motor learning on neuroplasticity in early Parkinson’s disease through the use of neurophysiological biomarkers.
During her stay in the UMCG she would like to increase her knowledge and experience regarding hyperkinetic movement disorders and their neurophysiology.
