Prof. M.A.J. de Koning-Tijssen, Prof. dr. O.C.M. Sibon and Dr. T.J. de Koning gave a lecture regarding rare movement disorders on the occasion of the Medical Public Academy on Tuesday November 6.
The University Medical Center Groningen established the Medical Public Academy in collaboration with the local newspaper ‘Dagblad van het Noorden’. Every two weeks, top researchers and physicians explain complex subjects and research within their specialism to the public. A bridge is built between the interest from the public and top research within the UMCG.
On November 6, three speakers representing the Expertise Centrum for Movement disorders got the change to provide explanation about their discipline to the wider public. Rare movement disorders: from child to adult. Prof. Marina de Koning-Tijssen, Prof. Ody Sibon and Dr. Tom de Koning have taught the people the meaning of movement disorders, the causality of these disorders - focusing on heredity -, and how fundamental research can result in a better treatment for these disorders.
