Since 2011 I am working as a GZ Psychologist and Regional Manager of the Expertise Center for Functional Movement Disorders. In the past year, in addition to outpatient treatment, we have also established Residential Care, where clients undergo short-term intensive treatment focused on functional-neurological-symptom disorder (FND). Patients with an FND experience complex patterns of motor and/or sensory symptoms.
In recent years, research on FND has increased, however, research on effective psychological treatment of FND is limited. The purpose of the study is to assess the efficacy of psychological treatment in the form of behavioral therapy in both outpatient treatment and short-term inpatient treatment. In addition, there is currently no questionnaire available at assessing all the symptoms of FND. Therefore, the Functional Neurological Disorder Questionnaire (FNDQ) had been developed. In a validity study we assessed the psychometric qualities of the FNDQ. With these studies we want to contribute to adequate psychological treatment in FND.
